This week's Hobby Sunday features my first unit of Primaris Intercessors for my Dark Angels army.
After some feedback from readers, I added some more noticeable red highlights for the gun casing on the Bolters, and looked at the brown leather of the pouches.
Here is the finished and based squad. All I need to do is add the transfers from the boxed set to the shoulder pads and backpack to be done with them. Any tips on getting a good seal on the transfers to stop them falling off?
I've also been experimenting with a white background for my photos. However, it seems to cast much deeper shadows than my normal background and is a lot darker compared to having no white background. Maybe I need another lamp or need to invest in a proper lightbox to photograph my models.
Hope you have enjoyed my look at my new Primaris unit for the Dark Angels. Remember you can also follow the blog on Facebook at the St Andrews Wargaming page. Coming up in this week's battle report, my White Scars take on a Sisters of Battle army in an ETC practice mission.

Mate, transfers - layer Ardcoat on entire panel. When dry, apply Micro Sol, cut the transfer out of the sheet and for curved surfaces make a few small incisions to help it bend over the curve, soak in water, slide off and position on pad, let micro sol dry, once dry, apply more micro sol taking care to brush down any wrinkles, let dry. Once dry again seal with another layer of Ardcoat. Once this is dry either dullcote/Army Painter Matt Varnish etc or if not varnishing model, just use a coat of Lahriam Fluid to kill the shine of the gloss ardcoat.
ReplyDeleteThe second layer of Ardcoat seals the transfer and protects the film from frosting when you use spray varnishes. Great squad so far BTW. Liking your DA scheme on Primaris.
DeleteThanks for the advice, Siph! I'm need to purchase some Micro Sol and give it a go.
DeleteWhat he said! Perfect set of steps and will do you well. Micro Sol is the stuff. Been using it since the 90's. You'll not have anything falling off, particularly if you seal the transfers after they dry as described.
DeleteLook great. I'd recommend getting a light box. Would really improve your photos.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's something I've been thinking about. Now that I am trying to improve my painting, it makes sense to try and improve the photos!
DeleteLooking fantastic! Great job on that lot.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave!
DeleteI do think your photos are letting your models down. You need a minimum of two light sources for decent pictures I find.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I need to pick up a second lamp for my photos.
