Today's Hobby Sunday features my completed Dark Angels Hellblasters squad.
I took the photos in my new lightbox. It's taken me a while to finally get one of these, and I am hoping it will improve the photos of my models.
I've only played a few games with this unit, but they are a very strong addition to the Dark Angels army. As well as having an incredibly powerful gun, the Weapons of the Dark Age stratagem allows you to increase their damage by 1. Doing 3 damage per wound on the unit is great, allowing them to take out a huge number of threats.
With the squad complete, I am moving on to the Scout squads for the army.
Minis great. To improve photos, put minis closer to back screen, take photo and then use something like Picasa free photo editor to crop off the white bits at the sides and zoom to just the models, can also balance the colours (handy one touch auto correct) and lighten or darken shadows so the photo matches the real life. I use it all the time, takes 10secs per photo. Also the individual shots, just move the other squad members aside and take the individual photos separately. Just my feedback mate, how I do mine at WeeMen ;)

DeleteThanks for the advice, Siph!
ReplyDeleteThey are looking really neatly done, bravo! Frak I hate Hellblasters though :-) After being an absolute plasma fan-boy for 20+ years the thought of being out-plasmed by anything drives me nuts. I should just buy some, but I have been avoiding the Primaris slipeery slope.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of photography, see if you can get a matt back drop as well; it helps. I use www.pixlr.com to edit my photos, it is free and work very well.
Cheers Mark! Yeah, they are incredibly strong for the Dark Angels, as are a number of the Primaris units.
DeleteI think matt black is the way to go. Maybe I can just undercoat the current background to dull it down a bit.
Nice work! Congrats on another strong unit for your force.
ReplyDeleteLooking good - How do you get the nice plasma effect on the coils?
ReplyDeleteThanks! I followed the tips on the warhammer TV video https://youtu.be/lpSVZiYLuPY
DeleteIt's a base of Kantor Blue, followed by highlights of Teclis Blue and Baharroth Blue. Finally, a quick highlight of White Scar just along the top edges.
Excellent fine painting work - will have to give this a go myself!
