Terrain Showcase- Age of Sigmar Desert Ruins Board

Today, I have the completed Age of Sigmar desert ruins board that I have completed for Didcot Wargames Club. We have a slowly growing population of AoS players at the club, so thought I would invest in a couple of boards to better suit the game, as the 40k boards often don't work well for them.

The board consists of Warcry ruins (Azyrite and Timeworn Ruins), as well as some trees I had previously made for the desert board. I also got an old GW ruined temple terrain piece for the centre. I might remove the green flock in time and add some sand to better match the board.

Hopefully, people will be getting games on it in the coming weeks.

Hobby Update 22/09/23- Azyrite and Timeworn Ruins

This week, I have been continuing work on some Age of Sigmar terrain for the club. This is the first dedicated AoS board that I have made for the club and decided to go for a desert theme to match the existing mats and some of the trees we have at the club.

I really like the warcry terrain sets that I have been using. They are fast to paint up and look good with some simple drybrush highlighting and a few details picked out.

The ruins were primes with Zhandri dust, then given a wash with agrax earthshade. They were then drybrush highlighted with Zhandri Dust, then Ubashti Bone. I then painted the details, using Waagh Flesh contrast for the green sections on the ruins. The wall sections were painted in Kantor Blue, while the metal sections were painted Bronze, followed by an Agrax Earthshade wash of these sections. Finally, the whole model was given a highlight with Screaming Skull.

This was a similar scheme to the Chanlnath Ruins I have previously painted, and I like how it turned out.

Hobby Update 20/09/23- Leviathan Tyranids

Today, I have some Leviathan Tyranids that have been painting up, though this time, not by me! My partner has been helping me to paint up some of my terrain and models over the past couple of years. She loved the look of the new Tyranid models, and wanted to paint them up once I got the boxed set.

We had a look online and found a tutorial and colour scheme that she liked, which happened to be the purple Leviathan scheme. We used this tutorial from Sonic Sledgehammer Studio, with a few minor modifications.

The Nids at the Warhammer store in Reading used the Leviathan scheme, but with red claws and weapons. Jennie liked the look of that, so we decided to copy it.

Here are some WIP shots of what she has done so far. I helped out a little, showing her the drybrushing highlighting technique, but the majority of the work was done by Jennie. I think they are coming along really nicely. She likes the big models, so I picked up a few more models to make the army a bit more viable with the new codex coming out.

I don't think she'll ever get into the gaming side, but really does enjoy the hobby aspect.

Age of Sigmar Temple Terrain

Continuing my work on some Age of Sigmar terrain, I painted up a temple set for use on my grasslands board. I purchased this printed Ancient Ruins set from Etsy. It's a really nice set for a reasonable price.

I undercoated the set with Turner and Gray Grey Primer. I really like this primer, as it is darker than usual grey primers, so is great for darker ruins and shading on terrain. It is also very reasonably priced. After that, I drybrushed it with Dawnstone, then White acrylic paint. The ground areas were painted brown, and I added some scatter flock to finish it off, focusing on the cracks between the tiles on the ground.

Age of Sigmar Graveyard Terrain

We've had an increase in the number of club members playing Age of Sigmar and fantasy, so I decided to add a couple of AoS boards to the club.
The first terrain set was the Graveyard set from GW. This is a really nice set, and I was glad to be able to pick one up off of ebay.

3D-printed Ork terrain

This week, I have some 3D-printed Ork terrain that I painted up for the Ork board at the gaming club. These were a really nice set that I ordered off ebay, which were a good quality print with little clean up required. I painted these up in a similar style to the GW Ork ruins.

First was a basecoat of a dark brown. Then I painted in the coloured sections with acrylic paints, using green, black, blue and red sections. After that, I used Ryza rust in various sections, then drybrushed it with Leadbelcher to finish it off.

Terrain Showcase- Operation Alpha

Today's terrain showcase is a set that I made for the Operation Alpha gaming mat from Pwork wargames.

The base of this mat was an mdf tournament set that I got off of ebay. I wanted to style this the same as the gaming mat, so stuck on geometric shapes cut out of plasticard.

Terrain Showcase- Boarding Actions set

Today's showcase is the Boarding Actions terrain that I painted up for the gaming group. I was trying to figure out a good scheme for this set, when I came across an amazing painting tutorial by ZamPainting on twitter.

This was exactly the sort of scheme I was looking for, as my plans were to go with blue or green walls, and this was a nice mix of the two. The tutorial was really easy to follow and I think it turned out really well. I was surprised how quickly I managed to get this done, especially as there are a ton of walls in the kit.

Terrain Showcase- Tournament Tables

In the last year, I have been hosting some local 40k tournaments at the gaming club. These have been a lot of fun, and something I was keen to try out after getting the gaming club up and running. Our largest event so far has been Oxford Onslaught, which featured 34 players competing over 2 days.

Here are some pics of the tables that were used at my tournament events.

Terrain Showcase- Tyranid Infestation

Another week, another terrain showcase. This time, my most recently completed board, a Tyranid Infestation board.

This once more uses the ttcombat tournament set with some added pieces to help it match with the gaming mat. This mat is the Xenos jungle one from Deepcut Studios.

Terrain Showcase- Jungle Board

This latest table is my second jungle board that I have made. The first was made using GW ruins and painted a lighter colour.

For the second one, I wanted to go with a different style and a darker tone for the buildings and board to match the darker gaming mat. This mat was from pwork wargames.

Terrain Showcase- Desert Table

Another terrain showcase, this time using a desert-themed board with mdf terrain. This once more uses the ttcombat Municipium terrain set. These are really good tournament sets that can be quickly painted up and themed to gaming mats.

Terrain Showcase- Necron City

Today I have another table that I built for my gaming group, Didcot Wargames Club. This was once more using ttcombat terrain, as well as some scratch built pieces to match up with a Necron-themed gaming mat from Frontline Gaming.

Terrain Showcase- Overgrown city

Hello there strangers! It's been an absolute age since I last posted, but I have been very busy in that time. My games club, Didcot Wargames Club, has been going strong with lots of regular attendees. I've also been hosting local tournament for the past year.
