Army Showcase- Dark Angels Primaris Marines

With the new Dark Angels codex due out soon, I thought it would be a good time to showcase my Dark Angels Primaris Force. 

This army consists of most of the models from the two boxed sets that have been out for Marines. I have a number of Ravenwing units to add to the force to expand it if necessary. 

Army Showcase- White Scars Primaris Army

Here is a showcase of the White Scars Primaris models that I have painted up so far. The lack of gaming at the moment has given me the opportunity to get more units painted up for my White Scars. Most recently, the contents of the Indomitus box have been added to my Scars, giving them more more power on the tabletop. 

I can't wait to get them back on the tabletop to test their abilities with the new codex. The army pictured below comes to about 2600 pts. Add this to almost 5000 pts of original White Scars, and it is quite a sizeable force that could be fielded in its entirety. 

Army Showcase- Genestealer Cults

Today's hobby showcase features my Genestealer Cults army. This is the latest of my armies that I have painted up. I took a lot of time on these models, using a number of GW tutorials to help me with painting up the force. I really like the look of the army, the way the orange contrasts with the other colours on the models, it really makes them stand out. 

Army Showcase- Deathwatch

Today I have some photos of my Deathwatch army, taking this weekend while I was bored. I've added a number of Primaris units in recent months and look forward to trying these out when we can play games again. 

Army Showcase- David's Sons of Medusa

This army showcase features David's Sons of Medusa, an Iron Hands successor chapter. David recently played me in a battle report, and has a great themed force that I wanted to show off.

The army features a number of nice conversions, mixing Space Marine and Ad Mech parts to create a lovely themed and unique force. 

Army Showcase- Steven's Astra Militarum

Today I have an army showcase for you, featuring Steven's Astra Militarum force. 

Steven got in contact with me on the St Andrews Wargaming Facebook page a while back with some great pics of his force when I was looking for hobby updates from readers. He was prepping them for a doubles tournament he was attending. 

The army is a great Astra Militarum armoured company, with a beautiful paint job on the tanks. I got in touch with Steven to get more info on the force and how he put it together. 

1. What drew you to the army? 

One of my friends has a Tanith army and we decided to go to the 40k doubles tournament at Warhammer World back in October. Because we wanted the army to be themed we started looking at other regiments that the Tanith fought with in Sabbat Worlds Crusade, because his army was 1000 points of pure infantry we opted for one of the tank regiments as we wanted to get past turn 1. 

I choose to go with the Narmenians 1st Armoured Regiment out of the novel Necropolis for three reasons. Firstly, the first time I read this novel it made me want to collect an armoured company but back then my painting skills were not up to scratch to do them justice. Secondly, the mustard drab colour scheme sounded like it would be fun to paint and yellow colours are always a challenge to get to look right. Thirdly, Coron Grizmund is my favourite character from the Gaunt’s Ghosts series so I would be able to convert a model for him and use him as a Tank Commander 

Army Showcase- Ricki's Blades of Caliban

Today I have another Army Showcase for you, with Ricki's Blades of Caliban Dark Angels force. 

I spotted this army on one of the 40k facebook groups and was blown away by how impressive it is. I quickly contacted Ricki to see if I could feature it and ask some questions about how the army came together. This initial force is part of an escalation league he is taking part in, and I cannot wait to see how the army progresses in the coming months. 

Here are Ricki's answers to my questions:

1. Why did you start the army?

For the past few years I have been primarily an Age of Sigmar player, having stopped playing Warhammer 40,000 midway through 7th edition as I sought the more narrative and open structure of Age of Sigmar to indulge my own personal obsession with conversion-based, narrative armies rather than the more competitive matched play scene perpetuated by Warhammer 40,000 in my area (entirely anecdotal of course). With my brother getting back into the Warhammer universe and picking up 40,000, and a friend nearby looking to start gaming for the very first time who also preferred the lore behind 40k, it seemed like a natural start point for me to rejoin the far future and put my Age of Sigmar projects temporarily on hold.

Army Showcase- Deathwatch Army

I recently completed my Deathwatch army, so here are some photos of the entire force. I started this army at the end of last year, and managed to get a fair amount painted up in the past year. With this army, I really wanted to push my painting skills and try to put together a nice looking force of Space Marine Veterans. 

The army comes in at just under 4000 pts (3977 pts including modelled upgrades), so there is a lot of scope for customisation at the standard level of 2000 pts. 

As this is an army showcase, I thought I'd answer the standard questions for my Army Showcase series. 

Warhammer Community Army Showcase- Graham's Death Army

As some of you may remember, my first Army Showcase post featured Graham's awesome Slaves to Darkness army. 

As if exposure on St Andrews Wargaming was not enough, Graham also decided to slum it on the pages of Warhammer Community with a showcase of his amazing Age of Sigmar Death army. 

Congrats to Graham on a fantastic achievement. Now, I'm not saying that his army featured on the Warhammer Community page because he was showcased here first, but you cannot prove otherwise! Army Showcase- Graham's Slaves to Darkness

Welcome to the first in what will hopefully be a new series on the blog, the Army Showcase. 

St Andrews Wargaming gives me the opportunity to show off my own hobby work to the blogging community, and there are many other great blogs out there to showcase their own hobby work and amazing armies. However, there are plenty of fantastic armies out there from hobbyists and players that do not have their own blogs, and I hope to help bring you some of these in the coming year. 

So before we get started with the first army showcase, I am putting the call out to all the readers out there. Do you have an army that you wish to showcase on the blog? It doesn't have to be a Golden Daemon winner, just a painted force that you are proud of and want to show to my regular readers. If you want a chance to showcase your own army, please get in touch (corrm83@gmail.com). All you need are some decent quality photos of your force (cameraphone is fine) and to answer a few short questions based on the army to get a flavour of why you chose the force. 

Today's inaugural army is Graham's Slaves to Darkness Chaos force. Graham's models have appeared on the blog before. I first met him at the Newcastle Warlords gaming club and was amazed by his Age of Sigmar armies that he uses. He does some amazing work, frequently wins painting competitions and has even had the opportunity to use his armies in live stream games on the Warhammer Community channel.
