Terrain Showcase- UKTC Cyberpunk Board

Today, I take a break from the Tyranids to showcase one of the recent boards that I made for the gaming club and tournaments that I hold. This one is a UKTC set that has been themed to fit the Cyberpunk gaming mat from gamemat.eu. I was really happy with how this one turned out, as I thought it might be difficult to match the aesthetic of the mat.

I started with undercoating the MDF set with dark grey primer, followed by Tempest Blue from the Colour Forge. I've used a few of these sprays and can really recommend them. They come in 500 mL cans, so are a bit bigger than standard spray cans. I was able to cover all the terrain for a standard UKTC tournament board with some left to spare in the can.

After that, I drybrushed with denim blue to try and match the lighter areas of the mat. I actually used Dulux paint rather than acrylic, as I struggled to get a good colour match without mixing, which I was worried about getting consistent across all the terrain. It actually drybrushed very well and didn't take too long to dry. However, it did absolutely ruin the brush, so be sure to use a cheap or old one!

Hobby Update 20/10/23- Tyranid Swarmlord

Today's hobby update features one of big leaders of the Tyranids, the Swarmlord. This model adds some great utility to the army with free CP and adding to the cost of your opponent's stratagems.

Hobby Update 18/10/23- Tyranid Barbgaunts

This hobby update features another new unit, the Tyranid Barbgaunts. This unit provides some useful firepower and ability to slow your opponent's army.

Hobby Update 16/10/23- Tyranid Screamer Killers

Today's hobby update features a couple of the Screamer Killers from the new Leviathan set. These are some great models and really quick to put together and paint. I got some variation in the poses by mistakenly gluing the wrong arms in the wrong slots.

Hobby Update 13/10/23- Tyranid Psychophage

Today's hobby update is the Psychophage from the Leviathan boxed set. The new Nid models from the boxed set are fantastic and really drew me to starting the army. I really like how this model turned out, as the blue contrasts quite well with the purple of the main model.

Hobby Update 11/10/23- Winged Hive Tyrant

Today, we have the Winged Hive Tyrant to lead my Tyranid force. This is one of Jennie's favourite models painted, she really likes the winged ones. This was purchased from ebay, so I didn't get to choose the weapon options and had to pin the tail to the body where it had snapped off.

Hobby Update 09/10/23- Tyranid Hormagants

Today, I have some Hormagants that were painted up in the Leviathan scheme. This squad adds some fast-moving combat potential, as well as the ability to tie up enemy units.

Hobby Update 05/10/23- Tyranid Termagants

Here are some of the Tyranid Termagants that Jennie and I have been painting up. We painted up 40 of these using a modified tutorial we found on YouTube. This was a really easy scheme and we got through them very quickly.

Hobby Update 20/09/23- Leviathan Tyranids

Today, I have some Leviathan Tyranids that have been painting up, though this time, not by me! My partner has been helping me to paint up some of my terrain and models over the past couple of years. She loved the look of the new Tyranid models, and wanted to paint them up once I got the boxed set.

We had a look online and found a tutorial and colour scheme that she liked, which happened to be the purple Leviathan scheme. We used this tutorial from Sonic Sledgehammer Studio, with a few minor modifications.

The Nids at the Warhammer store in Reading used the Leviathan scheme, but with red claws and weapons. Jennie liked the look of that, so we decided to copy it.

Here are some WIP shots of what she has done so far. I helped out a little, showing her the drybrushing highlighting technique, but the majority of the work was done by Jennie. I think they are coming along really nicely. She likes the big models, so I picked up a few more models to make the army a bit more viable with the new codex coming out.

I don't think she'll ever get into the gaming side, but really does enjoy the hobby aspect.

Hobby Update 21/05/21- TT Combat Brownstone

Hello strangers! It's been a while since I've posted anything, but that is mostly due to a lack of gaming. As we begin to move out of lockdown and I can get playing again, I've been doing some work on a new game.

I picked up the Batman Miniatures game recently. I've always been a big fan of Batman, so wanted to buy the game and try something a little different. As a result of this, I'm going to need some new terrain to go with the game, as my regular 40k stuff wouldn't really suit it too well.

I picked up a Brownstone building from TT Combat off of ebay. I wanted to paint this up in a pseudo-realistic fashion, so viewed a number of online tutorials for painting brickwork on model railways. I found this tutorial, and it was the kind of technique that I wanted.

However, I did differ slightly from the tutorial. To do the mortar work, they used joint compound. I tried this and it didn't really work too well for me. I had issues removing it from the brickwork without all the paint coming off too. In the end, I went with standard filler, which come off much easier, though I did colour it with a little grey acrylic paint.

Hobby Update 06/01/21- Dark Angels Ravenwing Talonmaster

Today's Hobby Update features a Ravenwing Talonmaster for my Dark Angels army. This unit provides some very strong firepower and buffing abilities for the force. I've been thinking a lot recently about running an all-Ravenwing army once more in 9th edition. Can't wait to get playing again to try it out.

Hobby Update 21/12/20- Primaris Apothecary

Today's Hobby Update features my Primaris Apothecary. This is a really powerful unit in the new codex, and can be spread over my various Marine armies thanks to the generic colour scheme. I didn't actually sped much time on the "arms" on top of the backpack. Odds are these are going to snap off over time, so there was little point in putting much effort into them. In fact, one of them snapped off during the painting, and has been precariously glued back on (the connections are very thin!).

Hobby Update 11/12/20- White Scars Primaris Lieutenant

Today's Hobby Update features the Indomitus Primaris Lieutenant. This should provide some strong re-rolls for my White Scars units, boosting the power of the assault Intercessors.

Hobby Update 09/12/20- White Scars Indomitus Captain

Today's hobby update features a White Scars Captain from the Indomitus box. This was a great model to paint up, and should prove a valuable addition to the army. I like the change to the Storm Shield rule, making the squad tougher against low AP infantry. The Relic shield should also help protect against mortal wounds.

Hobby Update 07/12/20- White Scars Primaris Bladeguard Veterans

Today's Hobby Update features a Bladeguard Veterans squad for my White Scars. This was one of the few units from the Indomitus box that I had yet to paint. They should provide some strong combat punch for the army, with a number of solid, master-crafted power sword attacks. In the assault doctrine, they will be doing 3 damage on the charge, capable to taking out the most powerful infantry units.

Hobby Update 03/12/20- White Scars Assault Intercessors

Today's Hobby Update features a new Assault Intercessor unit for my White Scars. Given their propensity for combat, adding another assault unit to the army is a solid option for the force.

I converted one of the Intercessors to carry a Thunder Hammer to give them a bit more punch in melee. This was converted from a Heavy Thunder Hammer from my Deathwatch spares.

Hobby Update 09/09/20- White Scars Indomitus Outrider Squads

Today's Hobby Update features a couple of Outrider units for my White Scars army.

It'll be nice to get some Bikers back on the table with my White Scars, as they have been a bit lacklustre in 8th edition. I'm looking forward to getting these on the table, as they have some potent firepower and combat ability, as well as being pretty tough.

I'll need to remember the Skilled Rider stratagem to give one unit an invulnerable save, to help protect them for a bit longer.

I realised after photographing the units that I hadn't done the eyes lenses on the helmeted Marines. I went back to fix this, but couldn't be bothered setting up the lightbox to take the photos again!

Hobby Update 04/09/20- White Scars Assault Intercessor Squad

Today's hobby update features a new squad of Assault Intercessors for my White Scars army.

These models are from the Indomitus boxed set (that I eventually got my hands on). This squad should really boost the combat potential of my White Scars forces, especially when the assault doctrine hits. The squad will get 4 attacks each on the charge, with AP-2 in the assault doctrine and doing 2 damage. That should prove to be a potent Marine killer when they go up to 2 wounds each.

Hobby Update 20/08/20- Primaris Chaplain

Today's hobby update features a Primaris Chaplain for my Space Marine armies. I purchased this model and got it painted up a couple of weeks ago. Annoyingly, I prefer the new Chaplain in the Indomitus boxed set, so will probably paint that one up too. I can't see me fielding both in a game, but perhaps they will work well with my White Scars combat units.

Hobby Update 17/08/20- Deathwatch Redemptor Dreadnought

Today's hobby update features a Redemptor Dreadnought for my Deathwatch army. I actually stripped the paint from this, as it was part of my Dark Angels army, and re-painted it for my Deathwatch.

This was the "easy to build" model, so I converted it to carry a Gatling Cannon in place of the Heavy Flamer.
