Army Showcase- Dark Angels Primaris Marines

With the new Dark Angels codex due out soon, I thought it would be a good time to showcase my Dark Angels Primaris Force.

This army consists of most of the models from the two boxed sets that have been out for Marines. I have a number of Ravenwing units to add to the force to expand it if necessary.

Hobby Update 21/12/20- Primaris Apothecary

Today's Hobby Update features my Primaris Apothecary. This is a really powerful unit in the new codex, and can be spread over my various Marine armies thanks to the generic colour scheme. I didn't actually sped much time on the "arms" on top of the backpack. Odds are these are going to snap off over time, so there was little point in putting much effort into them. In fact, one of them snapped off during the painting, and has been precariously glued back on (the connections are very thin!).

Hobby Update 11/12/20- White Scars Primaris Lieutenant

Today's Hobby Update features the Indomitus Primaris Lieutenant. This should provide some strong re-rolls for my White Scars units, boosting the power of the assault Intercessors.

Hobby Update 07/12/20- White Scars Primaris Bladeguard Veterans

Today's Hobby Update features a Bladeguard Veterans squad for my White Scars. This was one of the few units from the Indomitus box that I had yet to paint. They should provide some strong combat punch for the army, with a number of solid, master-crafted power sword attacks. In the assault doctrine, they will be doing 3 damage on the charge, capable to taking out the most powerful infantry units.

Hobby Update 03/12/20- White Scars Assault Intercessors

Today's Hobby Update features a new Assault Intercessor unit for my White Scars. Given their propensity for combat, adding another assault unit to the army is a solid option for the force.

I converted one of the Intercessors to carry a Thunder Hammer to give them a bit more punch in melee. This was converted from a Heavy Thunder Hammer from my Deathwatch spares.

Hobby Update 16/11/20- Deathwatch Primaris Outrider Squad

Today's Hobby Update features an Outrider Squad for my Deathwatch army.

Outriders have some great bonuses in a Kill Team for the Deathwatch. First off, you can field them in units of up to 5, compared to the limit of 3 for normal Marine armies. Second, thanks to the Kill Team mechanic, this squad gains objective secured, making them great for taking objectives from your opponent. They can also do some weird movement tricks thanks to gaining the infantry keyword, but I expect this to be FAQ'd at some point in the future.

For one of the Bikers, I decided to replace the Chainsword with a Heavy Bolt Pistol, just to add a bit of variety to the models.

Hobby Update 13/11/20- Primaris Chaplain on Bike

Today's Hobby Update features my recently converted Primaris Chaplain on Bike. With the new Deathwatch codex being released, I wanted to paint up some new Primaris units for my force, and the Chaplain was a great addition for the force.

I managed to get this model painted up at the weekend, working on some other Bikers at the same time as well.

How to make a Chaplain on Bike from Indomitus

Here is my how to guide on converting a Chaplain on Bike from the Indomitus boxed set. This will allow you to field your own Biker Chaplain to lead your Space Marine forces into glorious battle.

For this conversion, you will need:
  • Outrider Biker. The one with the pistol is the best choice, as this allows you to have the Chaplain wielding the Crozius arcanum.
  • Chaplain from the Indomitus box.
  • Book from the Ravenwing Upgrade sprue, or a suitable equivalent. The book on the Chaplain will also suffice.
  • Other decorative elements, such as purity seals, chapter symbols, Imperial symbols, etc.
The process was pretty straightforward and you should be able to complete it in under an hour.

Step 1- Clip off the appropriate parts, and clean up the mould lines. Drill out the barrels on your Outrider Bolters, if you are so inclined.

Step 2- Take Chaplain part G3 and outrider part E30. Cut off the arm section of G3 to give you the torso alone. Glue the two parts together.

Hobby Update 08/11/20- Primaris Chaplain on Bike

Today's hobby update features a converted Chaplain on Bike that I made for my Space Marine armies. I've been looking to add a Chaplain Biker to support and boost my Bikers armies, namely the White Scars and Ravenwing contingents of my forces.
The new rules provide some strong litany buffs for the nearby units and the mobility of a Chaplain on a Bike should prove to be a strong force multiplier. However, the official model is out of stock and I fancied something a bit different. With a few spares from the Indomitus boxed set left over, I decided to convert my own Biker Chaplain from the Outrider and Chaplain models in the box.

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. It was easy enough to do, and I'll post an article on how I carried this out later in the week. I had enough spare parts and accessories to add some decoration to the model. Fortunately, I'll have plenty of time during the current lockdown to hopefully get him painted up.

Hobby Update 11/09/20- White Scars Eradicator Squad

Today's hobby update features an Eradicator squad for my White Scars Primaris force.

These guys provide some potent anti-tank firepower to the army, with their special rules enabling them to fire twice at the same target. With a 24" assault Melta weapon, they can put a lot of hurt on enemy tanks and monsters with their potent firepower.

The right hand shoulder pad symbol was actually from the Ultramarines transfer set. I cut this out and painted it red (from white). Once dried, I was able to use the transfer as normal. I had tried doing free hand before, but had little success. I think this one turned out much better.

Hobby Update 07/09/20- White Scars Kor'sarro Khan

Today's Hobby Update features Primaris Kor'sarro Khan for my White Scars army.

Khan got the Primaris treatment recently to boost his stats in the new codex. With the release of the Assault Intercessors, I thought that Khan would be a nice addition to the force to lead the new units in battle. He gets an aura of +1 to wound on the charge, meaning I will be wounding most infantry models on a 3+ with the Intercessors. Khan is also pretty decent in combat with his power weapon, going up to S6, so he will be wounding a bunch of units on a 2+ on the charge thanks to his ability.

His warlord trait is not the best, but is not terrible. He gets +1 attack for each enemy character slain by him. With weaker characters, he can actually go up to a number of attacks, so is great for hunting characters.

Hobby Update 04/09/20- White Scars Assault Intercessor Squad

Today's hobby update features a new squad of Assault Intercessors for my White Scars army.

These models are from the Indomitus boxed set (that I eventually got my hands on). This squad should really boost the combat potential of my White Scars forces, especially when the assault doctrine hits. The squad will get 4 attacks each on the charge, with AP-2 in the assault doctrine and doing 2 damage. That should prove to be a potent Marine killer when they go up to 2 wounds each.

Hobby Update 20/08/20- Primaris Chaplain

Today's hobby update features a Primaris Chaplain for my Space Marine armies. I purchased this model and got it painted up a couple of weeks ago. Annoyingly, I prefer the new Chaplain in the Indomitus boxed set, so will probably paint that one up too. I can't see me fielding both in a game, but perhaps they will work well with my White Scars combat units.

Hobby Update 12/08/20- White Scars Primaris Impulsor

Today's hobby update features a second Primaris transport for my White Scars army, the Impulsor.

I had been waiting on assembling and painting this model for a long time, as I was hoping that the Deathwatch would gain access to the transport. However, that doesn't seem to be coming any time soon, so I decided to add the vehicle to my White Scars.

This should come in useful for getting the Assault Intercessors into combat, providing some nice protection for the squad as they advance.

Hobby Update 11/05/20- Deathwatch Primaris Inceptors

This past week, I've been working on some more Primaris forces for my Deathwatch army. I painted up five Inceptors to add the force.

My plan is to field one in each of my Primaris squads, along with a unit of 3 to Deep Strike in with their firepower on turn 2 when the Tactical Doctrine is active. I quite enjoyed how this unit worked in my White Scars army, so added some to the Deathwatch.

Hobby Update 04/05/20- Deathwatch Primaris Reivers

Today's hobby update features a unit of Reivers for my Deathwatch army. I took this squad from my Dark Angels force, stripped them down and converted them to have Bolt Carbines. I had some spares from an Infiltrator kit, and thought it would be a better option than the Heavy Bolter Pistol and combat knives.

The squad provides another deep strike unit for the army, and saves me from spending command points to infiltrate with them.

Hobby Update 29/04/20- Deathwatch Primaris Aggressors

I actually managed to get some painting done over the weekend. With the new Deathwatch rules being released in White Dwarf, I figured I would take a look at my Deathwatch Primaris units once more.
I will be putting together some of my thoughts on the new Deathwatch rules, but still haven't been able to get a copy of the White Dwarf yet (yes, I know there are leaks online, but I prefer to have it in hand).

First up was a unit of Aggressors. I had built these guys over Christmas, but was waiting to see what Chapter I would add them to. The Psychic Awakening rules for Dark Angels were a bit lacklustre for me (so much so that I haven't picked up the book yet), so I decided they would be added to my Deathwatch as part of my expanded Primaris Kill Teams.

I managed to get this squad painted up on Saturday, so these three warriors are ready to be added to the Deathwatch forces, when I can next get a game in.

Hobby Update 30/01/20- White Scars Inceptors

Today's Hobby Update features two units of Inceptors for my White Scars army. I recently started adding these units to my White Scars tournament list.

I find the firepower and mobility of the squads to be quite useful in my games. I normally bring them on in turn 2, where the Tactical Doctrine means their Assault Bolters are at AP-2. Keeping them in reserve also keeps them free from enemy firepower for the first turn.

Hobby Update 22/01/20- White Scars Primaris Impulsor

Today's hobby update is the Impulsor transport for my White Scars army. I took this to give my Primaris units a bit more mobility on the tabletop, as they were quite a static army.

I also magnetised the upgrade options to allow me to change the role of the tank on the battlefield. My first game with the Impulsor didn't really showcase its abilities much, as I outflanked it and the game finished early. However, I'm looking forward to trialing it out in my coming games.

Hobby Update 20/01/20- White Scars Phobos Librarian

Today's Hobby Update features my Space Marine Primaris Phobos Librarian. I'm mostly using this for my White Scars army, but as the Librarian has a generic scheme, I could use him for my Dark Angels as well.

I'm not sure which psychic powers are best for the Phobos Librarian. If you run one, which powers do you find the most useful?
