Hobby Update 20/10/23- Tyranid Swarmlord

Today's hobby update features one of big leaders of the Tyranids, the Swarmlord. This model adds some great utility to the army with free CP and adding to the cost of your opponent's stratagems.

Hobby Update 18/10/23- Tyranid Barbgaunts

This hobby update features another new unit, the Tyranid Barbgaunts. This unit provides some useful firepower and ability to slow your opponent's army.

Hobby Update 16/10/23- Tyranid Screamer Killers

Today's hobby update features a couple of the Screamer Killers from the new Leviathan set. These are some great models and really quick to put together and paint. I got some variation in the poses by mistakenly gluing the wrong arms in the wrong slots.

Hobby Update 22/09/23- Azyrite and Timeworn Ruins

This week, I have been continuing work on some Age of Sigmar terrain for the club. This is the first dedicated AoS board that I have made for the club and decided to go for a desert theme to match the existing mats and some of the trees we have at the club.

I really like the warcry terrain sets that I have been using. They are fast to paint up and look good with some simple drybrush highlighting and a few details picked out.

The ruins were primes with Zhandri dust, then given a wash with agrax earthshade. They were then drybrush highlighted with Zhandri Dust, then Ubashti Bone. I then painted the details, using Waagh Flesh contrast for the green sections on the ruins. The wall sections were painted in Kantor Blue, while the metal sections were painted Bronze, followed by an Agrax Earthshade wash of these sections. Finally, the whole model was given a highlight with Screaming Skull.

This was a similar scheme to the Chanlnath Ruins I have previously painted, and I like how it turned out.

Hobby Update 20/09/23- Leviathan Tyranids

Today, I have some Leviathan Tyranids that have been painting up, though this time, not by me! My partner has been helping me to paint up some of my terrain and models over the past couple of years. She loved the look of the new Tyranid models, and wanted to paint them up once I got the boxed set.

We had a look online and found a tutorial and colour scheme that she liked, which happened to be the purple Leviathan scheme. We used this tutorial from Sonic Sledgehammer Studio, with a few minor modifications.

The Nids at the Warhammer store in Reading used the Leviathan scheme, but with red claws and weapons. Jennie liked the look of that, so we decided to copy it.

Here are some WIP shots of what she has done so far. I helped out a little, showing her the drybrushing highlighting technique, but the majority of the work was done by Jennie. I think they are coming along really nicely. She likes the big models, so I picked up a few more models to make the army a bit more viable with the new codex coming out.

I don't think she'll ever get into the gaming side, but really does enjoy the hobby aspect.

Terrain Showcase- Sandswept City

This week's terrain showcase is one of my most recent boards. This board mainly based on the Chalnath Kill Team ruins, painted up to match the Sandswept City mat from Frontline Gaming. The Chalnath ruins are lovely pieces of kit, and I wish they had more of them available to buy. They are much sturdier than the old style ruins and I think they look really nice on the table.

Terrain Showcase- Industrial Board

Today's hobby showcase features an Industrial board that I made for my local gaming club. This was based on the kill team boxed set with the pipes and ruins. I really liked this set of terrain and wanted to paint it in a yellow scheme, with some rust.

Terrain Showcase- Corrupted Land

Hi everyone, today I have another terrain showcase for you. This time, a corrupted earth board that I made for my local gaming club. This was similar to the lava board that I made, with just a changed colour scheme to match the gaming mat.

Terrain Showcase- Lava board

Today, I am showcasing one of the terrain boards that I made for my gaming club; Didcot Wargames club.

Hi everyone! It's been a long, long time. I've kind of neglected the blog in recent years, due to a combination of having less time to spend on it, covid, and running the games club. However, I wanted to showcase some of the terrain that I have been making for the club in recent years.

Hobby Update 05/01/22- Jungle Terrain

Hi everyone, today's hobby update features pictures of my terrain that I have been making for the jungle mat. These are mostly ruins and jungles that I have based on MDF, and added some plastic trees and bushes that I purchased.
Adding these plastic pieces helps to make the ruins look denser, and add to the jungle feel of the board. I think this gives good coverage for the board, and hope to try it out before my tournament this month.

The plastic trees were from amazon. The shrubs were from ebay and amazon

Hobby Update 09.12.21- Desert Trees

Hi strangers! It's been a long time since I posted, but I have been very busy with real life in recent months. I moved house and started my own gaming club. This extra hobby time has eaten into my blogging, but I thought I would share some hobby updates.

I've been building terrain for my gaming club, as well as preparing for the first tournament I will be running. I decided to make some dense cover for my desert boards. These were really simple to put together.

I purchased some MDF (6 mm) and cut them into appropriate shapes. I then sanded down the edges and glued on some sand. I painted them in suitable desert colour, then drilled the holes to glue in the trees. I then added some static grass for details. I got all these bases done within a couple of days. Some nice easy terrain, for low cost.

I found the plastic trees on ebay. They are pretty cheap for a couple of sets to make my tree bases.

Hobby Update 06/01/21- Dark Angels Ravenwing Talonmaster

Today's Hobby Update features a Ravenwing Talonmaster for my Dark Angels army. This unit provides some very strong firepower and buffing abilities for the force. I've been thinking a lot recently about running an all-Ravenwing army once more in 9th edition. Can't wait to get playing again to try it out.

Hobby Update 21/12/20- Primaris Apothecary

Today's Hobby Update features my Primaris Apothecary. This is a really powerful unit in the new codex, and can be spread over my various Marine armies thanks to the generic colour scheme. I didn't actually sped much time on the "arms" on top of the backpack. Odds are these are going to snap off over time, so there was little point in putting much effort into them. In fact, one of them snapped off during the painting, and has been precariously glued back on (the connections are very thin!).

Hobby Update 11/12/20- White Scars Primaris Lieutenant

Today's Hobby Update features the Indomitus Primaris Lieutenant. This should provide some strong re-rolls for my White Scars units, boosting the power of the assault Intercessors.

Hobby Update 09/12/20- White Scars Indomitus Captain

Today's hobby update features a White Scars Captain from the Indomitus box. This was a great model to paint up, and should prove a valuable addition to the army. I like the change to the Storm Shield rule, making the squad tougher against low AP infantry. The Relic shield should also help protect against mortal wounds.

Hobby Update 07/12/20- White Scars Primaris Bladeguard Veterans

Today's Hobby Update features a Bladeguard Veterans squad for my White Scars. This was one of the few units from the Indomitus box that I had yet to paint. They should provide some strong combat punch for the army, with a number of solid, master-crafted power sword attacks. In the assault doctrine, they will be doing 3 damage on the charge, capable to taking out the most powerful infantry units.

Hobby Update 03/12/20- White Scars Assault Intercessors

Today's Hobby Update features a new Assault Intercessor unit for my White Scars. Given their propensity for combat, adding another assault unit to the army is a solid option for the force.

I converted one of the Intercessors to carry a Thunder Hammer to give them a bit more punch in melee. This was converted from a Heavy Thunder Hammer from my Deathwatch spares.

Hobby Update 16/11/20- Deathwatch Primaris Outrider Squad

Today's Hobby Update features an Outrider Squad for my Deathwatch army.

Outriders have some great bonuses in a Kill Team for the Deathwatch. First off, you can field them in units of up to 5, compared to the limit of 3 for normal Marine armies. Second, thanks to the Kill Team mechanic, this squad gains objective secured, making them great for taking objectives from your opponent. They can also do some weird movement tricks thanks to gaining the infantry keyword, but I expect this to be FAQ'd at some point in the future.

For one of the Bikers, I decided to replace the Chainsword with a Heavy Bolt Pistol, just to add a bit of variety to the models.

Hobby Update 13/11/20- Primaris Chaplain on Bike

Today's Hobby Update features my recently converted Primaris Chaplain on Bike. With the new Deathwatch codex being released, I wanted to paint up some new Primaris units for my force, and the Chaplain was a great addition for the force.

I managed to get this model painted up at the weekend, working on some other Bikers at the same time as well.

Hobby Update 08/11/20- Primaris Chaplain on Bike

Today's hobby update features a converted Chaplain on Bike that I made for my Space Marine armies. I've been looking to add a Chaplain Biker to support and boost my Bikers armies, namely the White Scars and Ravenwing contingents of my forces.
The new rules provide some strong litany buffs for the nearby units and the mobility of a Chaplain on a Bike should prove to be a strong force multiplier. However, the official model is out of stock and I fancied something a bit different. With a few spares from the Indomitus boxed set left over, I decided to convert my own Biker Chaplain from the Outrider and Chaplain models in the box.

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. It was easy enough to do, and I'll post an article on how I carried this out later in the week. I had enough spare parts and accessories to add some decoration to the model. Fortunately, I'll have plenty of time during the current lockdown to hopefully get him painted up.
