Battle Report 198- White Scars vs Death Guard

In this battle report, my White Scars army take on Rob's Death Guard in an ITC mission. I wanted to get some practice with ITC missions for some upcoming tournaments, so decided to try my list with one of the standard missions.

We were playing ITC mission 1 in this game and rolled and got Search and Destroy deployment. For those unfamiliar with ITC missions, they score a little differently. You got one point for holding an objective and one point for killing an enemy unit each of your turna. In addition, at the end of the the battle round, you score a bonus point for holding more objectives or killing more units. There are also secondary objectives you choose to score more points during the game.

My 2000 pts army consisted of:
Battalion Detachment
Captain on Bike- Twin Bolter, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield, Chogorian Storm, Master of Snares, Wrath of the Heavens
Librarian- Jump Pack, Force Stave, Mantle of the Stormseer, Ride the Winds, Storm-wreathed
5 Intercessors- Bolt Rifles, Bolt Pistols
5 Intercessors- Bolt Rifles, Bolt Pistols
5 Intercessors- Bolt Rifles, Bolt Pistols
3 Scouts Bikers- Twin Bolters, Shotguns, Combat Knives
Impulsor- 2 Storm Bolters, Ironhail Heavy Stubber, Shield Dome
3 Eliminators- Bolt Sniper Rifles
3 Eliminators- Bolt Sniper Rifles

Battalion Detachment
Captain- Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield, Chapter Master
Lieutenant- Jump Pack, Power Axe, MC Bolter
5 Scouts- Bolters
5 Scouts- Bolters
5 Scouts- Bolt Pistol, Combat Knives
5 Inceptors- Assault Bolters

Battalion Detachment
Chaplain- Jump Pack, Crozius Arcanum, Bolt Pistol, Litany of Hate
Phobos Librarian- Force Sword, Camo Cloak, Teneborous Curse, Mind Raid, Lord of Deceit
5 Infiltrators- Marksman Bolt Carbines
5 Infiltrators- Marksman Bolt Carbines
5 Scouts- Sniper Rifles, Camo Cloaks
Thunderfire Cannon- Techmarine Gunner with Flamer, Plasma Cutter, 2 Servo-arms

I had modified my tournament army based on some additional Primaris units that I had painted up. I added two units of Infiltrators, a couple of Eliminator Squads, the Phobos Librarian and the Impulsor. This army has a lot of board control with most of my troops infiltrating to grab objectives and areas of the board. I also added a second psyker to try and get off some useful powers. I'll need to see how this army performs in the ITC missions.

North East Open Tournament Battle Report: Game 1- Deathwatch vs Death Guard

Welcome to my first battle report from the recent North East Open 2019 tournament. I was invited up to Newcastle to take part in this ITC event and was looking forward to testing my Deathwatch with the new Chapter Approved points drops and Beta Bolter rules in effect.

The first mission was against Luke and his Death Guard army. The mission was Dominate and Destroy with Search and Destroy deployment. This gives you one point for each objective held at the end of the game turn, as well as a point for each enemy unit destroyed. The mission would also use First Strike, Linebreaker and Slay the Warlord.

My army consisted of:
Battalion Detachment
Deathwatch Watch Master- Guardian Spear (D)
Watch Captain- Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Bolt Pistol, Storm Shield (WC1)
9 Deathwatch Veterans- 9 Storm Bolters, 2 Storm Shields, Chainswords, Vanguard Veteran- Bolt Pistol, Storm Shield (KT1)
10 Intercessors- Bolt Rifles, Bolt Pistols (KT2)
5 Veterans- 2 Missile Launchers, 3 Stalker Bolters, Chainswords, Terminator- Power Fist, Storm Bolter, Cyclone Missile Launcher (KT3)
5 Veterans- 2 Frag Cannons, 3 Shotguns, Storm Shield  (KT4)
5 Veterans- Missile Launcher, 2 Heavy Bolters, Bolters, Terminator, Power Fist, Assault Cannon (KT5)
10 Veterans- 6 Bolters, Meltagun, 3 Combi-Meltas, chainswords (KT6)
Rhino- Two Storm Bolters (R1)
Rhino- Two Storm Bolters  (R2)
Razorback- Twin Lascannon, Storm Bolter (Rz)

Outrider Detachment
Watch Captain- Jump Pack, Relic Blade, Bolt Pistol, Lord of Hidden Knowledge (warlord trait), The Tome of Ectoclades (Relic) (WC2)
4 Bikers- Twin Bolters, Sergeant with Storm Bolter and Storm Shield, Chainswords (B1)
4 Bikers- Twin Bolters, Sergeant with Storm Bolter and Storm Shield, Chainswords (B2)
4 Bikers- Twin Bolters, Sergeant with Storm Bolter and Storm Shield, Chainswords (B3)

The tournament restrictions prevented double detachments, otherwise I would have tried to field a couple of Battalions for the extra command points. I had been having some fun with the army with the new beta bolter rules, giving a lot of firepower for the Bikers and other elements of the army.

Battle Report 163- 2000 pts Deathwatch vs Death Guard

This week's battle report sees my Deathwatch take on Khyl's Death Guard force in a maelstrom of war mission.

We were playing the Tactical Gambit mission. This is where you have to bet how many cards you will score in your turn (before you draw them) and draw up to four cards per turn.

My Deathwatch army consisted of:
Battalion Detachment
Watch Master- Tome of Ectoclades, Guardian Spear (WM)
Watch Captain- Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield (WC1)
Kill Team 1- 9 Veterans with 9 Storm Bolters, two Storm Shields and Chainswords, Vanguard Veteran with two Lightning Claws. (KT1)
Kill Team 2- 10 Intercessors with Bolt Rifles and Bolt Pistols. (KT2)
Kill Team 3- 5 Veterans with Stalker Pattern Bolters. (KT3)
3 Bikers- Twin Bolters, Sergeant with Storm Bolter and Storm Shield. (B1)
3 Bikers- Twin Bolters, Sergeant with Storm Bolter and Storm Shield. (B2)

Battalion Detachment
Watch Captain- Jump Pack, Relic Blade, Bolt Pistol, Lord of Hidden Knowledge warlord trait. (WC2)
Librarian- Force Sword, Bolt Pistol, Null Zone, Psychic Fortress (L)
Kill Team 4- 5 Veterans with two Missile Launcher, three Bolters, Chainswords. (KT4)
Kill Team 5- 5 Veterans with two Missile Launcher, three Bolters, Chainswords. (KT5)
Kill Team 6- 5 Veterans with 4 Combi-Meltas, Bolter, Chainswords. (KT6)
Drop Pod- Storm Bolter (DP)
Razorback- Twin Lascannon, Storm Bolter (D)
Venerable Dreadnought- Twin Lascannon, Storm Bolter

A change up to my regular Deathwatch army. I decided to go with the standard two Battalion detachment, giving me 13 command points in total.
For the characters, I went with the standard Watch Master, accompanied by two Watch Captains with Jump Packs. One had a Storm Shield and Thunder Hammer to go aggressive. The other, I made my warlord to keep safer than the other Captain and Watch Master.

I went with six Kill Team, many of which were my standard roll out. The first two Kill Teams had the firepower boost and would deep strike using the Teleportarium stratagem. I also took one with Stalker Bolters and two Kill Teams with Missile Launchers for some long range firepower. I also took a Kill Team with Combi-Meltas. I gave them a Drop Pod to allow them to get into range to use their firepower.

I also decided to trial out a Venerable Dreadnought to give me some more anti-tank firepower. It would also allow me to use Wisdom of the Ancients to help out the Missile Launcher Kill Teams. I also took a couple of Deathwatch Biker units to give me some much needed mobility for the maelstrom game.

Battle Report 128- 2000 pts Dark Angels Ravenwing vs Death Guard

This week's battle report saw my first outing with the new Dark Angels codex. In this game, my 2000 pts Ravenwing army would be taking on Connor and his Death Guard army, featuring the Daemon Primarch Mortarion.

We rolled for the mission and were playing the Recon maelstrom mission. This game uses a form of reserves. Each army would be split into three roughly even portions (based on number of units). One portion would start on the board, while the rest would come on from reserve in the first or second turn.

My army consisted of:
Outrider Detachment
Sammael on Corvex (S)
Librarian- Bike, Force Sword, Aversion, Mind War (L)
5 Ravenwing Bikers- 2 Meltaguns, Power Fists, Chainswords (RB1)
5 Ravenwing Bikers- 2 Plasma Guns, Power Sword, Chainswords (RB2)
4 Ravenwing Bikers- Flamer, Chainswords (RB3)
Dark Talon- Two Hurricane Bolters, Rift Cannon, Stasis Bomb (DT)

Outrider Detachment
Ravenwing Talonmaster- Shroud of Heroes, Twin Assault Cannon, Twin Heavy Bolter, Power Sword,(T)
4 Ravenwing Bikers- Plasma Gun, Power Sword (RB4)
3 Ravenwing Bikers- 2 Grav Guns, Chainswords (RB5)
5 Black Knights- Plasma Talons, Corvus Hammers (BK1)
5 Black Knights- Plasma Talons, Corvus Hammers (BK2)
Darkshroud- Assault Cannon (D)

I decided to try out my all-Ravenwing army to see how they fared with the new rules and points reductions.

I decided to take Sammael, the new Talonmaster and a Librarian. The Talonmaster would provide some very nice buffs to my Black Knights, along with Sammael. The Librarian took Aversion and Mind War. I was hoping that Mind War would be able to diminish Mortarion and make him easier to deal with.

I was able to put another unit of Bikers into the list thanks to the points reductions to the Ravenwing, allowing me to field 5 units of Bikers, pretty much all the Bikers that I had. They would be supported by the Darkshroud, Dark Talon and Black Knights.

Battle Report 3- 1850 pts White Scars vs Death Guard/Imperial Knight

Last weekend I managed to get in a couple of practice games with my White Scars army for blog wars. The game was against Jamie from Warsoc (St Andrews wargaming club) and he was bringing his 30k Death Guard army with allied Imperial Knight. I asked him to bring the knight along as he is the only player in our club with one and I wanted to see how well my army might handle one.
Jamie has a really nice looking heresy army and I was fighting along with it at our apocalypse battle last month. I knew it was a tough army, but wanted to see how my white scars would go up against it.

The battle in full swing.
