Hobby Update 10/07/18- Deathwatch Storm Bolter Veteran Squad

Today's Hobby Update features my new Deathwatch Veteran Squad, armed with Storm Bolters. 

This is a new option in the codex and a very powerful one at that. I went for a full unit of 10 to give me an amazing 40 shots when they arrive from the Teleportarium. I scoured my bits box to find a bunch of spare Storm Bolters to add to a Veteran squad. 

Here is the painted squad.

    We have previously discussed the deathwatch codex, and how I had no interest in the new additions, that I hoped they would make the army I currently have viable, that I didn't want to have to go out and buy a bunch more stuff to make the army work...

    I haven't played enough games to tell yet, and I have no intention of getting primaris... but the damage output from special ammunition storm bolters is somewhat tempting... :P Maybe I could add one more squad to my deathwatch army...

      I don't want to tempt you unduly, but they are incredibly strong in the Deathwatch. I technically only added 5 more models to the army, as I simply swapped the Storm Bolters out for Bolters on 5 of my existing Veterans.

      I quite like the Primaris models, now that I have painted a bunch up. I don't think I'll add any more to the army at the moment.

      I may have to scour my bitzbox and see what I can find and how much work it would take... my space marine bits collection isn't great, never having collected the army myself, just receiving the occasional sprue from friends as I am "the guy" with the extensive bits horde :P

    Great looking squad, Mike. I have also been adding storm bolter veterans to my force. Do you find the shield help in your game? I feel like more often than not the hits I place on shield bearers just plow on through my terrible saving throws...

      It can be a bit hit and miss with the Shields, but overall, I find them to be worth it for keeping the squad alive for longer. Some games I never seem to make a save, but others they tank a whole unit's worth of shooting. For only 10 pts for 2 in the squad, I would say it is well worthwhile in taking one.
