2017/2018 Hobby Season Review

Another hobby season has come to an end, let's take a look back and see how I got on. You can find my original post on the hobby goals for the upcoming year in the link

I didn't have too many hobby goals set, as I was in the process of moving yet again and didn't want to commit to too much.

1. Find a New Gaming Club- Completed!
Last year in September, I had just moved to Oxford, so was in need of a new gaming club. Fortunately, I was able to find a couple in a reasonable distance.

I am currently attending the Spiky Club in Reading and the Oxford Gaming Club, in Oxford, perhaps unsurprisingly. These are two great gaming clubs that provide me with a wide range of opponents for my battle reports and to hone my gaming skills.

2. Finish my Genestealer Cult Army- Completed (kind of)
While no army is ever really complete, I have completed the list of models that were on the list at the start of the hobby season. These were:

Patriarch
Primus
Magus
Acolyte Iconward
35 Acoltyes/Metamorphs
30 Neophytes
8 Abberants
20 Purestrain Genestealers
Goliath Truck
Goliath Rockgrinder

These have all been painted up for my army. Indeed, I have added a few more additions to the force in the form of three Sentinels and a Leman Russ. I am currently planning on painting up a few more models for the army in the coming weeks. I might also pick up some of the new Aberrants from the new boxed set to add some variety to the unit.

3. Paint my Imperial Knight- Nope!
Once again, the big man is left languishing in his box. I think all I managed this year was a black undercoat of him.

Hopefully, I'll be able to fix this in the next year, as I now have a bunch of Knights to get painted up in addition to him.

4. Visit Warhammer World- Completed!
Having been gaming for over 20 years, it was a bit surprising that I had never managed to visit the home of GW in all that time.

I was able to rectify that this year though, attending the GT Heat 1. This was a great experience, not only getting great games on great tables, but finally visiting the exhibition hall to see the great models on display. Hopefully, I'll make it back to another tournament in the coming year.

Overall, pretty good progress on my admittedly meager hobby goals for the year. I'll need to have a think about some upcoming hobby goals for the next year.

  1. The first knight is always the hardest ;-) I have another two sitting in boxes at the moment, maybe we can have a knight-off challenge next season!

  2. Time for a community Lord of War painting challenge I think!

Good work getting through all of those Genestealer Cult models too.

    3. I think there was someone done about December last year. Might have to try and organise one for October or November.

  3. Congrats on the season. Plenty of good work has been showcased here over the year. How you find any time to paint or model with all the battle reports is a mystery to me! Best wishes for 2018/19. I'll have my own look back post up next week...trying to squeeze in one...more...project...

    1. Haha, my lack of a social life is my saving grace, I guess.

  4. Honestly, even if you didn't hit all your goals, that's some pretty impressive accomplishment.
