Codex Deathwatch- Video Review

Thought I'd try something new on the blog today. I made a video review for the new Deathwatch codex.

Don't worry, I'll still be doing my written reviews for the codex, the first part of which published today. If you are interested, take a look at the videos and see if you like them. I'll be looking for feedback on them as I move forward.

In particular, I have a few questions about the video:
  • Was the sound quality good enough?
  • Was the content interesting? Were there any parts you liked or didn't like?
  • Was it too long?
  • Were the visuals interesting enough to keep you engaged?
  • What videos would you like to see on the blog in the future?
I hope to do more videos in the future, maybe even branching into video battle reports at some point. Don't worry, the written reports aren't going anywhere. I've actually just made a purchase that should help with the battle reports in the future. I'm hoping to find a way to incorporate the maps into a video report to give a clearer picture of the game.

Also, if anyone has any experience of uploading phone videos to Youtube, I'd be interested to hear. The first 30 minute video took about 2 hours to load! I don't know if it is the format used or my internet connection (which is normally really good), but would like it to be much faster in the future.

  1. Just wanted to say I'm glad you're still doing the write-ups as well. I'm much better at taking in info from text than video, so those posts are more useful for me.

    1. Don't worry, I'll not forget my routes when youtube fame and fortune calls ;)

I agree, the text versions can provide much more information and discussion, as well as information that I forgot about or thought about later.

    2. Yeah, not saying that you shouldn't do the videos. Just felt it worth mentioning that there is an audience for the text posts as well. A lot of places over the last several years have pretty much just gone "Video=better", which gets kind of frustrating.

    3. I know what you mean. It seems like if you don't do battle reports on Youtube, you don't matter.

  2. You've a great face for radio!
I think both, but get more value from reading as I retain more than with video. For getting famous and sponsorship and millions of dollars, YouTube is the way to go.

    1. Cheers Adam! I'll probably try and do some videos every once in a while.

  4. I think you might be underestimating pure Veterans with Storm Bolters and Chainswords.... at 20 points a piece they are expensive (same as an Intercessor) and have -1W and worse AP/range on their shooting, but they can take any transport, they get 4 shots with SIA at Rapid Fire range per model (so up to 40 in a max squad) and they also have 3A each (2 base, plus free chainsword). Rhinos are a cheap way to buff their mobility and durability and they can sprinkle in Frag Cannons and Storm Shields to taste. Finally, they essentially get two sergeants for free (Watch Sergeant and Black Shield), which with a couple of Power Swords gives you 6 x S4 AP-3 attacks per squad at a bargain rate. Bottom line, while expensive , I think Veterans with SBs/chainswords are actually quite good value and a competitive option, especially mixed with some Rhino/Razorback and Watch Master support.

    1. I hadn't considered Veterans with Storm Bolters to be honest. That's a lot of strong firepower for not a lot of cost.
