This week's Hobby progress sees my Deathwatch Dreadnought finally get painted up.
With 8th edition now released, I wanted to get my Deathwatch Dreadnought completed to try out his new awesomeness on the tabletop.
On a side note, the blog has been a bit sparse of content recently. Don't worry, with the release of 8th edition, expect that to change. I have plans to get reviews up on the new rules for my different armies, as well as a whole host of battle reports in 8th edition with my various forces. I'll initially be focusing on my Deathwatch, as I will be attending Caledonian Revolution in a couple of weeks. They will be using 8th edition, so I'll need to try and learn the army quickly and get a few practice games in before I go.
I did things a little differently with the Dreadnought. Normally, I would start with the edge highlighting on my Deathwatch, then move on to the bulk colours. However, the Venerable Dreadnought featured a lot of silver and gold, so I decided to paint these areas first in case I made any mistakes and would need to colour over the edge highlights again.
I painted the metal parts Leadbelcher, followed by painting the gold areas Retributor Armour.
These were then given washes of Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade, respectively. I then did the edge highlighting of the Dreadnought, followed by picking out the red areas and highlighting the silver and gold with Runefang Steel.
I painted all three weapons options for the Dreadnought to give me a bit of variety. The base was then painted to match the rest of my Deathwatch force. With that, I was done. This was really easy to bat out, taking only 3 nights of light painting to complete.
I will be hopefully be getting my first 8th edition game on Sunday, where the Dreadnought will get his first game.

Looking well there and bravo for painting up the different options. Roll on 8th eh?
ReplyDeleteTotally! Can't wait to get some practice games in this weekend. Going to have to learn it quickly, as I have an 8th edition tournament in a couple of weeks.
DeleteThat's very neat. The tidiness of the edge highlights makes the large flat areas stand out in a natural way.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon. I find that vehicles are the easiest to do the edge highlighting, as they have a lot of flat edges.
DeleteI agree with Jon, great edge highlighting mate. I love the plasma coils as well, that's a very nice effect. I'm such a sucker for plasma weapons :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers Marc! I do love me some plasma goodness in 8th edition, especially now you don't have to kill yourself with them (though you should always choose to overcharge if you are feeling nostalgic for suicidal plasma gunners).
