Hobby Sunday 19/02/17- Cityfight Ruins

This week, I decided to make a change and do some work on some Cityfight ruins that I had lying around.

I've been busy for the past few months getting my Deathwatch painted up and trying to finish up my unit for Squaduary most recently. I though I would take a look at some neglected terrain that has been sitting for ages.

I have had these pieces built and undercoated black for a long time now. I recently purchased some grey primer from GW, so got to work undercoating them with grey to save me having to paint the entire surface. I then gave them a quick highlight with white. This is my standard technique for painting ruins. They could be used in a game as is, but I will go back and pick out some details in them.

I also decided to base my Imperial church that I finished a while back. When taking it to and from the gaming club, the brass decorations on the bottom have a nasty habit of breaking off. To save me having to fix it each week, I added a cardboard base. This base was one of the tile sections from the Deathwatch Overkill game.

I also had constructed a Manufactorum-type building. My original intention to was paint this grey, as with my other buildings. However, after reading Joe's great Good Reads article over at Broken Paintbrush, I decided to change that. This edition featured an awesome tutorial on using salt to do rust effects, from Miniatures of Tomorrow. I decided to give this a go, and have started doing the rust effects on the building.

I hope to get these buildings finished off fairly soon to use in my games.

  1. Yeah, great to see terrain getting love. I drybrushed black buildings withLeadbelcher and Orange to simulate rust.

    1. Thanks for the tip Siph! That will work really well with some of my other ruins.

  2. Ooh, it's all go on the scenery front - I spent last night gluing road sections down to a board for the first of the grimdark brotherhood's boards - we've got a hobby night tomorrow to get more progress done together!

    1. Yeah, the new local club means that I bring my own scenery, so it's a great excuse to get some more stuff painted and gives me a nice break from my Deathwatch!

    2. More progress on the scenery front is always good, there's not many of us like doing it, but I'm looking forward to getting some batreps done on fully painted boards.
