Fluffageddon List Thoughts

With no Blog Wars this November, there is another event being run to take its place; Fluffageddon. This tournament is designed to create an event that brings more variety to armies and "encourage" players not to bring filthy lists for the game. This was in a similar vein to Blog Wars, so I will be attending Fluffageddon too.

Some of the restrictions are:
  • 1500 pts Battle Forged Army
  • No Forgeworld, Superheavy vehicles or Gargantuan Creatures
  • Maximum of 2 Detachments
  • No more than 2 units in the entire army may be duplicated
  • Armies should aim to fit the background of the force
  • No filth!

I was originally going to take my White Scars as that army has the most variety in it. However, I have been playing them a lot recently, especially in tournaments, so thought I would give them a break.

Instead, I have decided that my Ravenwing will be getting an outing for the tournament. This will allow me to create a nice, fluffy list that will also be very strong, as the Ravenwing are great at the moment. I thought about my Guard or Orks, but I honestly don't know if I could field an army within the tournament restrictions, and anyway, I don't have them with me in Newcastle yet.

My initial thoughts for my list are:
Ravenwing Strike Force
Interrogator-Chaplain- Bike, Meltabombs, Auspex, Mace of Redemption
5 Ravenwing Command Squad- Ravenwing Banner, Apothecary, Grenade Launcher
6 Black Knights- Meltabombs, Grenade Launcher
6 Ravenwing Bikers- 2 Grav Guns, Sergeant with Meltabombs and Power Sword
6 Ravenwing Bikers- 2 Meltaguns, Sergeant with Meltabombs and Power Fist
Attack Bike- Heavy Bolter
Landspeeder- Multi-melta, Typhoon Missile Launcher

Ravenwing Support Squadron
Darkshroud- Assault Cannon
3 Landspeeders- Assault Cannons, Heavy Bolters

I think this will be a very strong force on the table. I took a similar force to Blog Wars X and it performed very well for me there.

I decided to take the Interrogator-Chaplain over Sammael. Sammael is great, but I think the Chaplain will boost the Command Squad more with the Zealot re-rolls and Fearless. He takes the Mace of Redemption to give him a lot more punch in combat.

A Ravenwing Command Squad and the Black Knights will be the hard hitters of the army. These units have very strong shooting and combat potential and are insanely durable thanks to their 3+ re-rollable cover saves (3+/4+ for the tournament).

I then took two large units of Ravenwing Bikers (mostly to make up the points!). One unit is full strength (6 Bikers and attack bike), allowing me to combat squad the unit to gain 2 additional units (Ravenwing squads split into two 3-man squads and the attack bike). This will give me some more tactical flexibility for the maelstrom mission.

The Ravenwing Support Squadron makes an appearance in the list. I love this formation and think it is really strong. Strafing run allows all those Assault Cannons and Heavy Bolters to hit on a 2+. In addition the Squadron gets Interceptor and gets to fire Overwatch against units that charge the Ravenwing (take that Tau! Let's see how you like it!).

I think the army should hit the background requirements. I see this as a scouting Ravenwing force out hunting the Fallen. I think it is a very strong list, but not filthy.

I'm looking forward to the event. I know a few other bloggers are attending, so it will be great to meet up again.

  1. Looks tasty Mike, it'd be interesting to see how it fares against my Tau, they ran out 17-3 winners against a Chaos armour list last night (I even won a combat!)

    1. They might do ok against your Tau, seeing as you tend to use Markerlights to increase BS rather than ignore cover ;)

      Tau winning combat?!? Heresy!

  2. The structure of your list is nice and fluffy, but on the whole I think it needs more plasma to keep it true to the cause - hard as it is to do, maybe drop the Grav? :D

I would also look to shave some points and put Shroud of Heroes on your chaplain - T5 means FNP will almost always be in use, and a 2+ jink for your warlord wont hurt either.

    1. The Black Knights and Command squad come armed with plasma talons, so plenty of plasma in the list. The grav is there to deal with things like monstrous creatures and Riptides.

If I was to take the Shroud of Heroes on the Chaplain, I couldn't take the mace of redemption, which I think will be much more useful. He will probably go in the Command Squad, so will most likely be getting a 2+ jink and feel no pain anyway.

  4. I love the list. Plasma spam for Dark Angels is a fairly recent development anyway. The earliest fluff on them suggests that, because they were the first Legion, they have larger quantities of archeotechnology. Grav would fit under that umbrella.

    1. Emailed Matt (the organiser) with the list. He thinks it is too strong based on the lists that have been submitted so far. Might have to go with a toned-down White Scars list instead!

    2. Well I have to say I admire Matts diligence... I assumed he was just checking against the rulespack, I didn't realise he'd be casting a critical eye over list strength too. That adds a whole other dimension to list checking, fair play to him for putting in the effort...
