I like the sound of the few changes I have heard about so far but will not hold my breath just yet. AOS looks quite apppealing however, so if they port over some of those changes it would be welcome (wounds on vehicles with limited effectiveness as they gain more for example)NafNafhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15788927908701998169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668255476316917252.post-5586595693383536662017-03-31T01:19:46.790+01:002017-03-31T01:19:46.790+01:00I love these looks back through the history of the...I love these looks back through the history of the Game. A few more bits:

I don’t know much of Rogue Trader, but I do know that the predecessor of the Sustained Fire Die was Following Fire, which allowed the Model to keep making shots as long as they successfully Hit.

Terminator Armour was 3+ on 2d6 for most. I think Khorne Terminators got the 2+ on 2d6.

Sustained Fire Dice were particularly weird because they were all or nothing: One roll to Hit, and then if it did hit, you got all the Hits indicated by the Sustained Fire Dice. Also, no chance of Jamming if you missed. It was a weird system. Revised in Gorkamorka (and I think in Necromunda, but I can’t recall for sure) so that you rolled the SFD first, and then rolled to Hit that many times, which made much more sense.

When an Assault Cannon rolled Jams on all three of its SFD, it exploded!

Weapons frequently did multiple Wounds, often involving all kinds of dice besides 6-siders. Multi-Meltas did 2d12, for instance. This was really important because that same set of dice was also added to the roll the penetrate Armour against Vehicles, and Vehicle AVs were far higher in 2nd Ed.

Blasts were limited to scattering half the distance from the firer to the target. Often abused by fast Units with nasty Blasts (primarily Land Speeders and Attack Bikes with Multimeltas (Yes, those had a 2" Radius Blast back then!)) racing up to 1” away and auto-hitting.

Also in 3rd, Pistols had the option to fire twice if the user remained stationary. Might have carried over to 4th, I don’t recall. Pretty sure it was gone by 5th, tho.

4th Ed Rapid Fire also stopped the Unit from Charging in the same Turn. Other than sitting still in 3rd, it was very popular for some Armies to get close, fire Rapid Fire Weapons once each, and then Charge.

Movement changed from Squad-by-Squad to Model-by-Model in 6th, not 7th. There were also some weird modifications made to how you determined which Models were eligible casualties by Range in the middle of 6th via one of the FAQs. You ended up having to measure twice for each Weapon, and it was a total mess.WestRiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10221228665636182019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668255476316917252.post-82965869446709335532017-03-30T16:53:35.963+01:002017-03-30T16:53:35.963+01:00Excellent, thorough, and informative article.
